The headline on one of Variety's "10 Directors to Watch 2013" features is "Lowery: Texas talent is Sundance-bound." The story lists Lowery's homebase as Dallas. His name rang a bell, and not just because Lowery's name is the same as that guy from Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker.
Sure enough, former DFW.com film critic Christopher Kelly wrote about Lowery's Ain't Them Bodies Saints last April. The movie is co-produced by James Johnston, who along with his wife Amy McNutt is one of the minds behind Spiral Diner. Chris also wrote this profile of Johnston and McNutt, which includes comments from Lowery, who was Johnston's roommate in the early 2000s.
According to Variety, the film -- "a Southern Gothic-tinged drama" -- stars Rooney Mara (of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film series), Casey Affleck and Ben Foster.
