It's one of our favorite months, full of GrapeFest wine, Oktoberfest beer, football tailgating and artery-clogging fried food at the State Fair.

Sept. 12: GrapeFest, downtown Grapevine (through Sept. 15)

Sept. 13: Lone Star Park fall quarter horse meet (through Nov. 9); Hangman's House of Horrors opens for Halloween season in Fort Worth

Sept. 15: "Mexico: Inside and Out" contemporary art from central Mexico, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (through Jan. 5, 2014); 30th Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade and Festival (gay pride parade), Lee Park, Dallas

Sept. 20: Plano Balloon Festival, Oak Point Park (through Sept. 22); Port-A-Cool U.S. National Dirt Track Championship, TMS (through Sept. 21); Addison Oktoberfest 2013 (through Sept. 23)

Sept. 21: Trinity River Trash Bash, Fort Worth

Sept. 27: State Fair of Texas, Fair Park (through Oct. 20)
