Woke up to an e-mail saying that KDGE/102.1 FM had cut air personality Jeff Kovarsky, better-known to listeners as Jeff K, but Kovarsky confirms that he's still with the station -- and more important, he's still the production manager for Clear Channel Dallas' cluster of stations, which also includes KZPS/92.5 FM, KEGL/97.1 FM, KDMX/102.9 FM and KHKS/106.1 FM.
The confusion seems to have arisen from the station's canceling of Old School Edge, the two-hour retro-music program that Kovarsky hosted on Sunday mornings. The station recently reintroduced the noon Flashback Cafe, now hosted by new midday DJ Daniel, whose webpage at this writing has a photo that might not be save for work, depending on where you work.
Jeff K says that his on-air role with the station is still to be determined, and that he will most likely be a fill-in DJ in addition to his behind-the-scenes work. But there'll be evidence that he's still with the station on New Year's Day, when he'll be holding down the 2 to 7 p.m. shift.
He also just wrapped up (earlier than he or a lot of other people would have liked) a gig as the in-game host for the Dallas Cowboys, which he says is the most fun he's had in a long time -- and if the NHL ever has a season, he'll replace the retired Bill Oellerman as the public-address guy for the Dallas Stars.
