As you probably know, George H.W. Bush has been in intensive care in a Houston hospital, where the latest reports are that 88-year-old former president is showing signs of improvement and even singing with the doctors and nurses.
On Thursday, WBAP/820 AM/96.7 FM mistakenly sent out an e-mail announcing 41's death per The Dallas Observer, which links to this screen shot captured by Liberally Lean From the Land of Dairy Queen The e-mail was quickly followed by this correction.
Liberally Lean is getting a little extra traffic for posting on the snafu.
UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Rick Hadley, WBAP's news director, who explained the error.
"Just like any other news organization, we were preparing to send an e-mail blast should President Bush die," Hadley said. 'In the process of doing that, they were checking out the artwork or the wording, and somehow ... it went out. We didn't do it intentionally, [it] was completely a technical error."
Hadley says that station officials didn't realize the e-mail had gone out till phone calls started coming in to the station, and the error was corrected as quickly as possible. The error was only in the e-mail and was never repeated on the air.
