Year in review: DFW's best art and museum events of 2012

Posted 8:11am on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012

This art year ending in the number 2 was filled with anniversaries, which bodes well for 2022, 2032 and beyond.

The Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Sid Richardson Museum all celebrated decades of achievement. The Metroplex welcomed the stunning Perot Museum of Nature and Science, so it, too, will be celebrating during the second year of each coming decade.

Some small gallery shows eclipsed the larger efforts at major museums. The Modern mounted a Lucian Freud exhibit that was so timely in its scheduling to be almost eerie; organized while the artist was still alive, it opened after he died. Which suggests that 2012 was all about fortuitous timing for the museums, not so much for Freud.

Here's a slide show featuring the 10 best art and museum events of the year.
