Behind the scenes of the 2013 Twin Peaks Calendar shoot

Posted 8:23am on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012

Full disclosure: I am a big fan of the restaurant known as Twin Peaks. From my initial visit to the Lewisville location to many return trips to other locales, I have always enjoyed the 'Ultimate Man Cave' that began in DFW in 2005 and now has 24 restaurants in 10 states.

I had the honor to be selected as a "Celebrity Judge" for the 2011 edition of the Twin Peaks All-Star Bikini Contest. It was held in a covered tent outside the Addison location on a steamy July evening that made the 29 degree beer a hit of epic proportions. The annual event has morphed into such a big event that this year's contest was moved to the Palladium Ballroom at Gilley's Dallas -- a much larger and air-conditioned venue. The title of 2012 Miss Twin Peaks went to Tember from Omaha who took home the first prize of $5,000 and automatically earned an appearance in the upcoming calendar.

Miss Twin Peaks would return to DFW in just a few weeks as the photo shoot featured two sets of ladies from across the country who had been selected to appear in the calendar. Since going to eat at Twin Peaks is all about having fun, it only makes sense that this would be a photo shoot with slight hints of a vacation.

The girls all stayed at the upscale W Dallas-Victory Hotel and made sure to get some quality time at the hotel's infinity pool that overlooks the neighboring American Airlines Center. I must admit, the pool time was the highlight of our hanging out with the girls if not only to watch other guys at the pool try to interact with them.

When not relaxing by the pool, they were all treated to MMA training and taken for a shooting lesson at the DFW Gun Range and Training Center -- translation: these are attractive girls that you do not want to mess with after this trip. In the midst of all the action, the girls did have call times to a studio in the nearby Design District where they donned variations of the Twin Peaks uniform for the calendar pictures.

When not working or working out, the calendar girls were treated to a little DFW fun. The first group of ladies attended a Texas Rangers baseball game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington while the second group -- since the Rangers were on the road -- went to the impromptu Dave Chappelle concert at the House of Blues.

Over the period of a few days, we dropped by several restaurants including Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, Velvet Taco and the Fan Sports Lounge. Needless to say, our group received its fair share of attention at each spot. I was sure that my tenure as a judge in the bikini contest could not be topped. I stand corrected.

The 2013 Twin Peaks Calendar is available at every Twin Peaks location or by visiting here.

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
