Report: Spanish radio station KTCY sold, to become Christian station

Posted 6:10pm on Monday, Nov. 05, 2012

AllAccess.com reports that Liberman Broadcasting is selling Spanish Top 40 KTCY 101.7 FM "Baila 101.7" to Educational Media Foundation for $6 million.

EMF, as Educational Media Foundation is better-known, plans to launch its Christian Air1 format on 101.7 by early 2013. Air1's mission statement: "To effectively communicate the gospel message to those who do not know or fully understand it, through full-time contemporary Christian music and short educational elements over radio, the Internet and other select targeted media - using modern day language and the highest professional standards."

Air1's biggest competition will be KLTY 94.9 FM, which, frankly, has become strong competition for everyone. During the past three months of Arbitron reports, KLTY has been surging, and in October it was a strong second place in overall ratings to KHKS 106.1 FM "KISS-FM," which has consistently been No. 1 in non-holiday months. But KISS had a 6.6 share overall compared with KLTY's 6.2 in October, which was KISS' slimmest lead in a long time.
