Kenny Chesney to perform at halftime of Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game

Posted 9:47pm on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012

The Dallas Cowboys have announced that Kenny Chesney will perform at halftime of the game against the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving Day to kick-off The Salvation Army’s 122nd annual Red Kettle Campaign. The concert will be the 16th year of the partnership between the Dallas Cowboys and The Salvation Army, raising more than $1.5 billion.

“There are great traditions in America — especially Thanksgiving, family and football. For 16 years the Dallas Cowboys and The Salvation Army have been an American tradition and I’m happy to be a part of it,” said Kenny Chesney. “I’m calling on all of my fans to not only give back this year but also send in their best football highlights videos for a chance to see me live in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day.”

The halftime extravaganza has become almost as big of a tradition as the holiday game itself. Previous halftime performers that helped bring awareness to the campaign include last year's Enrique Iglesias, Keith Urban, Daughtry, Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Sheryl Crow, Destiny's Child, Toby Keith, LeAnn Rimes, Creed, Jessica Simpson, Clint Black, Randy Travis and Reba McEntire.

Now through Nov. 11th, fans can visit here for a chance to win a trip for to DFW for the Thanksgiving Day game and get on-field passes for the halftime show performance and a meet-and-greet with Chesney. In addition -- now through December 24 -- donors can text the word “GIVE” to 80888 to make a $10 donation to the Red Kettle Campaign.

Chesney is no stranger to Cowboys Stadium as he and Tim McGraw visited Arlington this past June as part of the Brothers of the Sun tour. He also performed at Cowboys Stadium on April 16, 2011 on his stadium-only “Goin’ Coastal Tour.”

This year's Thanksgiving day game against the Redskins is a 3:15 p.m. kickoff. The game will be televised on FOX.
