Eats beat: Two new places to sip famous Joe T's margaritas

Posted 2:43pm on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012

Joe T. Garcia's has more than one margarita.

Now, it also has more than one bar for trying them.

Both the family's Esperanza's Bakery & Cafe locations now offer full bar service, meaning your Joe T.'s margarita doesn't require a sun-baked wait in line or a drive to the Stockyards.

The margarita choices:

Original, on the rocks or frozen, with gold tequila, triple sec and pure lime juice.

"Top shelf," with premium tequila.

Or the "Martín" (mar-TEEN), longtime bartender Martín Munoz's concoction using a secret formula that might include Grand Marnier and Cointreau.

The south-side Esperanza's is also polishing plans for a new dinner menu.

Nighttime offerings will include a chophouse-quality pork chop ranchera dinner and also a steak platter, along with the regular menu and a fresh, made-to-order version of the Joe T.'s "family-style" dinner.

Best-kept secret at all three restaurants: beef or cheese chiles rellenos. The original Joe T.'s serves them at lunch (and often has them at night -- ask).

The south-side Esperanza's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily at 1601 Park Place Ave. at Eighth Avenue, 817-923-1992; joets.com.

The north-side location is open for breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch at 2122 N. Main St. (next to the original Joe T.'s), 817-626-5770.

Wednesday is the final day for Hoffbrau Steaks' 30 percent off special in Fort Worth, part of a 30th birthday celebration on South University Drive.

That means the lunch steaks sell for as little as $7. The top-of-the-line bone-in rib-eye is about $18. (That's only at the Fort Worth location.)

Hoffbrau restaurants are always a good value, but this is a birthday special to remember; 1712 S. University Drive, 817-870-1952; hoffbrausteaks.com.

Brewed, a sharp new gastropub, is scheduled to reopen Wednesday after taking Tuesday off for a belated "training."

It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday for brunch at 801 W. Magnolia Ave., 817-945-1545; brewedfw.com.

The Fred's Texas Cafe patio is now promised to open within about a week.

Fred's is open daily except Monday for lunch and dinner at 915 Currie St., near the West 7th shops; 817-332-0083, fredstexascafe.com.
