Has Joaquin Phoenix just destroyed his chances of getting an Oscar nomination for his role in The Master? Some think so after his interview with former Star-Telegram film critic Elvis Mitchell in Interview magazine came to light Thursday.
Phoenix, who was previously nominated for roles in Walk the Line and Gladiator, used a four-letter word to describe the Oscars and said, I dont believe in it. Its a carrot, but its the worst tasting carrot Ive ever tasted in my whole life. I dont want this carrot.
However, others take a contrarian view that his outburst just might help his chances. We'll have to wait and see. After all, being anti-Oscar didn't hurt Marlon Brando's chances of winning a gold statue for The Godfather in 1973 though he refused to accept it.
