Musician with Grapevine roots gets national spotlight

Posted 4:06pm on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012

Alexandra Switala, an 18-year-old violinist originally from Grapevine, will be featured on an upcoming episode of From the Top, the NPR radio program about young classical musicians hosted by pianist Christopher O’Riley. The episode will air Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. on WRR-FM/101.1.

Switala now lives in Chicago where she is studying at the Music Institute of Chicago.

In 2011, she was the Sphinx Competition First Place Laureate and previously has appeared on From the Top on its Carnegie Hall episode. This time, she will perform Ideas, a duet with 17-year-old pianist and composer Franz Zhao. The performance was taped in front of a live audience at the Chautaauqua Amphitheater in upstate New York.

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
