The Red River Rivalry and its weekend full of parties has come and gone with the Sooners beating the Longhorns 63-21 in a game that was not even as close as its score. This week saw the University of North Texas defeat Louisiana-Lafayette 30-23 on Tuesday at Apogee Stadium while SMU hosts Houston on Thursday evening at Gerald Ford Stadium. This essentially leaves the weekend to DFW's Big XII contest between TCU and Texas Tech at Amon Carter Stadium.
The game features the Horned Frogs, hot off their 49-21 road win at Baylor, taking on the Red Raiders, fresh off their 49-14 destruction of No. 5 ranked West Virginia. Expect a huge crowd in Fort Worth as what should be the start of a new rivalry with the teams now in the same conference.
With temperatures forecast in the low 80s, expect a great tailgating scene around the newly renovated stadium. For this game, with Texas Tech being a legendary party school -- and having such a huge DFW alumni base -- and TCU recently being named in Playboy's Top 10 Party Schools issue, the scene around DFW will be bigger than your typical TCU football weekend.
Here are a few places of interest for the party crowd:
Brownstone in Fort Worth's West 7th corridor is the "Official Texas Tech vs. TCU Party Headquarters." The action begins Thursday evening with DJ Bobby Preston spinning, half-priced martinis and a free appetizer for groups of four or more unescorted ladies. Friday evening will have sounds by DJ Joey with the fun culminating Saturday evening with the entertainment provided by Texas Tech's DJ ZKOSTA and TCU's DJ Bobby Preston.
Chimy's on Foch Street in Fort Worth is hosting a block party on Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Live music featuring the Kyle Bennett Band and the Orbans begins at 6 p.m. With Chimy's popularity in Lubbock, expect a huge crowd for this one and plan to arrive early.
Wish Ultralounge on Knox Street in Dallas is the site for the Texas Tech and TCU Pep-Rally on Friday evening featuring DJ ZKOSTA from Lubbock spinning and $3 drink specials until midnight.
