Thursday's close enough to the weekend, right? Let yourself go with a great mix of Blackbox Presents and Dallas Distortion Music-curated local and regional rock at the Grotto with Fort Worth's Pinkish Black, the Dallas-based Blackstone Rangers, Austin's the Boxing Lesson and Purple. The tunes get going at 9 p.m., and cover is $7.
Dallas-based country-rock outfit J. Charles and the Trainrobbers will release the debut LP Upon Leaving on Tuesday, but the band has an impressively full celebration planned for Saturday at Club Dada. Beginning at 9 p.m. with Dead Birds (which features members of Whiskey Folk Ramblers) and continuing through to the Trainrobbers' headlining set at midnight, Dada will be filled with great, diverse local sounds. (Other performers on the bill include Dove Hunter, the Will Callers, Corey Howe & Vince Tuley and Dan Phillips.) Tickets are $5 in advance (via Ticketfly.com), $8 at the door, $11 for under-21s.
