Billy Bob Thornton to open Lone Star Film Festival

Posted 1:37pm on Thursday, Oct. 04, 2012

Actor and director Billy Bob Thornton will be this year's special guest at Fort Worth's Lone Star International Film Festival which runs for five days beginning Nov. 7.

Thornton will present the new film Jayne Mansfield's Car, which he wrote, directed, and starred in, on opening night at the AMC Palace downtown. He will also take part in an question-and-answer session with the audience and be presented with an Achievement in Film award at the festival ball.

Jayne Mansfield's Car, also starring Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick, Frances O'Connor, and Ray Stevenson, is a '60s-set drama about two families coming together at a funeral. Not including the 2011 documentary about Willie Nelson, The King of Luck, this is the first feature Thornton has directed since Daddy and Them in 2001.

Thornton won't be the only one receiving honors at LSIFF this year. Albert S. Ruddy, the producer of The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby, will also be getting an Achievement in Film Award and singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver will be bestowed with the Stephen Bruton Award.

The remainder of the festival's film lineup will be announced next week with individual tickets going on sale Oct. 10. Full access passes are available now at the web site, lonestarfilmsociety.com.
