Music minute: A mix of national and local bands at Index Festival

Posted 6:54pm on Tuesday, Oct. 02, 2012

Most of the excitement over Spune's inaugural Index Festival is -- rightly -- centered on the national acts ( Portugal. The Man, Grimes, Surfer Blood and Washed Out, among others) coming to Deep Ellum, beginning at 3:50 p.m. Friday. But plenty of local bands will be popping up on the trio of stages set up in and around Trees, including the Cush, Air Review, Bethan, Blackstone Rangers, Telegraph Canyon, Low Dark Hills, A.Dd+ and many more. The two-day festival will also feature a beer garden and food trucks. Single-day passes ($28) and two-day passes ($38) are available via spunetickets.com, as are two-day VIP passes ($125).

Dallas roots-rockin' Somebody's Darling has been extremely busy these last few weeks, releasing its sophomore album, Jank City Shakedown, recording a Daytrotter session and preparing for a monthlong East Coast tour. Before the band shoves off for its string of out-of-state shows, it will celebrate Shakedown's release with a show at 9 p.m. Saturday at Club Dada. It'll be joined by Goodnight Ned and Bravo Max. Cover is $5.
