Playboy unveiled its annual list of the top universities for those looking to attend college and not really remember a lot about their four (or five or maybe six?) years on campus. After last month's Princeton Review released its list of top party schools with West Virginia on top and not one of DFW's schools in the top 20, Playboy's list has arrived and put the Metroplex's college-aged party crowd back in the game.
The magazine crunched the numbers and tallied the drinking stories to present the "best universities in the country for letting loose." Playboy's editors took America's top 100 universities and ranked them based on 900 data points in three categories: Sex, Sports and Nightlife. They factored in criteria such as male-to-female ratio on campus, relative proximity to hot spots and athletics win-loss records.
The big winner is the University of Virginia as the school founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819 was crowned with the top spot. UVA was followed by the University of Southern California, the University of Florida and the University of Texas at Austin. TCU, which placed 9th overall on the list, was the only DFW school on the esteemed list. Last year's champion, the University of Colorado at Boulder, did not appear in this year's list.
SMU was ranked as the top university for "Nightlife," where "Dallas is your never-ending house party." Uptown's Idle Rich Pub got special mention from Playboy as "the campus hot spot that best describes the student body."
The Playboy Top 10 Party Schools for 2012 are:
- University of Virginia
- University of Southern California
- University of Florida
- University of Texas
- University of Wisconsin
- University of Georgia
- Vanderbilt University
- Tulane University
- Texas Christian University
- Ohio State University
