West Seventh Street has never celebrated Diez y Seis de Septiembre.
But then, West Seventh Street has never had so many central-Mexico-style restaurants.
Hacienda San Miguel, Lanny's Alta Cocina Mexicana and Revolver Taco Lounge all plan special dishes or deals for this weekend or Sunday, marking the traditional "fiestas patrias" to celebrate Mexico's independence.
At Hacienda San Miguel, a late Saturday party will feature $2 "street tacos" after 10 p.m., made on chef Hugo Galvan's palm-size, handmade corn tortillas.
The bar will pour small margaritas for $1, and a norteño band will bring the party to Crockett Street.
San Miguel will also serve its new brunch menu both weekend days with a choice of ceviche and traditional plates such as migas norteñas or three-pepper chilaquiles. The bar pours orange, mango or pineapple mimosas.
Hacienda San Miguel is open for lunch and dinner daily at 2948 Crockett St.; 817-386-9923, hsmw7.com.
Lanny's Alta Cocina Mexicana will serve chiles en nogada, the traditional September dish, both Friday and Saturday.
The stuffed peppers, walnut cream sauce and pomegranate seeds give the dish its red, white and green look, matching the colors of Mexico's flag.
Lanny's is also premiering a new menu featuring a braised pork shank in molé, lamb in dark molé or chef Lanny Lancarte's traditional carne asada.
Appetizers include duck confit tamales with molé poblano or mezcal-cured hamachi with chayote.
(If you haven't been to Lanny's, the entrees cost about $30-$40. The best deal is a five-course tasting menu for $60.)
Lanny's is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Friday and Saturday night at 3405 W. Seventh St.; 817-850-9996, lannyskitchen.com.
Revolver Taco Lounge is the newest of the three and the latest to plan a menu.
The Rojas family, originally from the state of Michoacan, has been adding specials and plates almost daily, including sea bass wrapped in hoja santa, stuffed cornish hen and a Mexico-style pan-fried chicken. Drinks include margaritas and a chipotle-pineapple martini.
The basic menu includes duck molé, roasted goat, sea bass with molé pipian and other interior-Mexico dishes.
Revolver Taco is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, lunch Sunday at 2822 W. Seventh St.; 817-820-0122, revolvertacolounge.com.
