The Star-Telegram arts writers spotlight what's rocking their world this week.
1 The Master: The latest film from Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the most talked-about of the year. It revolves around a religious organization that bears a resemblance to Scientology, and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. England's The Guardian exclaims "if there were ever a movie to cause the lame to walk and the blind to see, The Master may just be it." North Texans get to see for themselves starting Friday.

2 Aimee Mann , Charmer : An aptly titled collection sure to be lost among the high-profile releases Tuesday, singer-songwriter Aimee Mann's brisk (38 minutes), zippy new LP is her first record in four years, and feels like a burst of spring even as autumn beckons. Produced by Mann's bassist, Paul Bryan, and featuring a guest spot from the Shins' James Mercer on Living a Lie, Charmer is otherwise Mann's showcase for her mournfully melodic sensibility and a batch of terrific songs deserving of heavy rotation on speakers near you.

3 Katy Perry The Movie: Part of Me : Making a serious documentary about pop star Katy Perry might seem a bit like trying to grab hold of a cloud. Yet, directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz manage to balance the outlandish with the painfully personal in this concert film/biography hybrid. It comes out Tuesday on DVD, Blu-ray and three-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital copy.
