Carshon's Deli has only been open 84 years.
But if you just know it for kosher-style sandwiches or its locally renowned chocolate meringue pie, you're missing a classic deli breakfast.
Carshon's opens at 9 a.m. and serves old-world deli specialties: eggs with salami, corned beef or lox, or a bagels-and-lox plate with cream cheese.
For old-time Texas tradition, Carshon's serves some of Fort Worth's best chili con carne. At breakfast, it goes on a chili-cheese omelet or on scrambled eggs.
The hash browns are a standout: Instead of the typical shredded diner variety, they're made from fresh potatoes, seasoned and diced.
Besides bagels and muffins, the morning breads include sourdough toast and a special stuffed French toast with cinnamon, sugar and bananas.
One warning: This isn't a coffee cafe.
Carshon's serves a basic cup of joe, but diners come for the breakfast, not to get a buzz or log into the Wi-Fi.
Breakfasts range from about $3 to $10.
(If you're lucky, there might be leftover pie from the previous day. Or wait until after 11 a.m. for a Rachel, Ruthie or Rebecca sandwich with a fresh-from-the-oven slice of chocolate or coconut meringue.)
It might be the best place to stop or meet before the TCU Horned Frogs' 11 a.m. games.

Grapevine's annual wine festival features everything from sausages and corny dogs to a $250-a-couple black-tie wine gala.
Main Street Bistro & Bakery will have a booth serving pulled-pork sandwiches, chicken with hummus or grilled polish sausages.

Also, Napoli's Italian Cafe will sell its New York-style pizza.
Nearby restaurants open all weekend range from local legend Tolbert's to the new "restaurant row" with Bob's Steak & Chop House, Fireside Pies, Mi Dia From Scratch and Winewood.
