Model Pets of DFW winners: 2012 edition

Posted 8:09am on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012

If it's an honor just to be nominated, then more than 200 North Texas pets ought to feel mighty proud this week. That's how many entries we received in this, our fourth annual Model Pet of DFW contest. In your essays, the love poured off the page. And that gave us hope and optimism in what has felt like an especially brutal year for pets in the area; we heard far too many stories of inexplicable animal abuse, and they hung heavy on our hearts. But you lifted them up, with story after story of people who are so nuts about their pets that they pamper and spoil them, treat them like children, and even start Facebook pages for them.

It's always a tough job, because we all know that in some ways, these all deserve the label of model pet.

But in the end, the judges chose three grand-prize winners, one each in the dog, cat and "alternative" pet category. You'll find the full slideshow of all the pets that were entered right here.
