Arlington rockers Flatworld will celebrate the release of their latest LP, Contradictions, at 9 p.m. Friday at the Grotto. The foursome -- drummer Andrew Alldredge, vocalist/guitarist John Davies, vocalist/bassist Kendall Keene and lead guitarist Garvey Standerfer -- will be joined on the bill by Gonzo City and We the Sea Lions. Cover is a mere $5, and with it, every attendee will get a copy of Flatworld's sophomore effort.
Lola's Saloon is augmenting Friday's headlining performance from Brooklyn psych-folk quintet These United States (touring in support of its just-released, self-titled fifth album) with a pair of killer local openers, both exquisite singer-songwriters: Jacob Furr will bring along his new band, the Only Road, and Nicholas Altobelli will pack a group he has dubbed the Gigawatts: Heather Kitzman on pedal steel, Becky Middleton on keys and Daniel Markham on electric guitar. Music gets going at 10 p.m. and tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door.
