Restaurant Week makes it easy to branch out

Posted 1:04pm on Thursday, Aug. 09, 2012

Restaurant Week is a good time to try someplace new.

But it's also a time to revisit old friends.

Reata's menu for the annual $35 charity dinners next week reflects favorites old and new: a choice of a Stilton-crusted tenderloin in wine sauce, or the restaurant's first-rate "Texas redfish" (red drum) with Parker County peach salsa.

Reata's seafood has stood out recently, along with old favorites such as the chicken-fried steak -- now free-range and organic -- and the rellenos and tenderloin tamales.

The Restaurant Week menu also includes a salad with a poblano-buttermilk dressing and a choice of cheesecake or molten chocolate cake. Wine pairings cost an extra $20.

(Of each $35, $7 goes to the Lena Pope Home family agency.)

Reata is open daily for lunch, dinner and a Sunday-menu brunch at 310 Houston St., 817-336-1009; reata.net.

Other menu highlights (call ahead for reservations -- specify "Restaurant Week"):

The Wild Mushroom Steak House in Weatherford will extend the "week" through Sept. 3 and offer an intriguing Indian-Mexican fusion menu with tandoor chicken or skirt steak, chorizo spinach and jalapeño soup; 1917 Martin Drive, Weatherford, 817-599-4935, thewildmushroomrestaurant.com.

Ray's Prime Steak & Seafood in Ridglea will serve the special through Aug. 26 and offer a 14-ounce rib-eye, a peppercorn filet, salmon or scallops in citrus-butter garlic with corn risotto; 3206 Winthrop Ave. at Camp Bowie Boulevard, 817-732-1614, rayssteakhouse.com.

Lonesome Dove Western Bistro , serving next week only, will feature chef Tim Love's signature garlic-stuffed beef tenderloin, an elk tenderloin or sea bass, plus a "Mexican doughnuts" dessert; 2406 N. Main St., 817-740-8810, lonesomedovebistro.com.

Grace Fort Worth , serving the special through Sept. 1, will offer a petite filet with Brazos Valley polenta and corn succotash, or a flounder Milanese with desserts including butterscotch pudding; 777 Main St., 817-877-3388, gracefortworth.com.

Bonnell's , serving through Aug. 25, will offer chef Jon Bonnell's special $25 lunch menu with shrimp pasta and a Triple XXX Root Beer float, or a $35 dinner menu featuring a lamb shank, poblano chicken breast or crabcakes; 4259 Bryant Irvin Road, 817-738-5489, bonnellstexas.com.

More than 100 restaurants across Fort Worth and Dallas are offering the special.
