Dallas-bred Disney Channel star, Wayne Brady team for talent search

Posted 11:14am on Thursday, Aug. 09, 2012

According to his Internet Movie Database bio, Plano native Kenton Duty is only 17 -- but he's already involved in a talent search where he's the one doing the searching.

Duty, who grew up in Dallas, is one of the many DFW-raised actors (including Dallas' Selena Gomez, Colleyville's Demi Lovato, Keller's Debby Ryan, Arlington's Jennifer Stone, Garland's Mitchel Musso and others) to find success on a Disney Channel show. Duty plays Gunther Hessenheffer on Shake It Up, a series about two girls who are background dancers on a popular teen dance show.

Now Duty and TV personality Wayne Brady are working with Hollywood Launch for a scholarship audition seeking the next "triple threat" -- singing, dancing, acting -- superstars.

Duty, who also appeared on Lost as the young version of Jacob, will come back to Dallas along with Brady to work with Jonathan George, president and owner of Hollywood Launch DFW, on the star search. The auditions will take place Saturday, Sept. 15 at School of Rock Dallas, 5606 Dyer Street in Dallas. Callbacks will be the next day. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. Sept. 16, with a red-carpet event to follow at 6 p.m.

The search is looking for multitalented performers 8 to 21. Pre-registration is required; call 682.888.7043 or e-mail Jodi@hollywoodlaunch.net. For more info, go here or here.
