The old catfish restaurant in Willow Park is busier than ever.
That's because there are more fish now in Fish Creek.
Owner Joe Lane's menu now includes swordfish, halibut, salmon and tilapia, plus oysters Rockefeller, blackened specials, pastas and a "crawfish diablo" fondue.
The fried catfish fillets are some of the best this side of the Brazos River, with a sweet cornmeal breading. (Ask for the bacon remoulade.)
Another new special is beer-battered cod. If you're a fan of Baja-style fish tacos, Fish Creek has either shrimp or tilapia tacos ($6.99 for tilapia on "Taco Tuesdays").
Desserts include a red velvet cheesecake.
Fish Creek is open for lunch and dinner Sunday through Friday, dinner Saturdays at 4899 Interstate 20 E.; 817-441-1746, eatfishcreek.com.
One of Dallas' most popular restaurants is celebrating the life of late chef Julia Child beginning next week.
Rise nº1, known for all manner of soufflés, will mark her 100th birthday beginning Wednesday, then offer a free lunch Aug. 15 to anyone dressed as Child or as her husband, Paul.
Costumes must be "respectful," Rise nº1 says, suggesting a short, brown curly wig, a button-down shirt or blouse with a pencil skirt, a pearl necklace and earrings, and high heels. ("Please remember that we are celebrating the life of this wonderful chef," the Facebook page warns.)
Rise nº1 is open for lunch and dinner at 5360 W. Lovers Lane; 214-366-9900, risesouffle.com.
Cadot, Lavendou and the Landmark at the Warwick Melrose hotel are also offering specials. Cadot, for example, will serve a three-course dinner ($40) Wednesday through the following weekend; cadotrestaurant.com.
The Landmark is serving a three-course dinner of Child recipes all month ($36) with a four-course dinner on her birthday, Aug. 15; landmarkrestodallas.com.
The promotion is part of New York-based Alfred A. Knopf publishing's "JC100" birthday celebration.
If you've ever wished Joe T.'s had shrimp fajitas, or took American Express, then look south.
The south-side location of Esperanza's Cafe & Bakery will expand its menu soon, adding shrimp and veggie fajitas, ceviche, and more entrees.
Unlike sister restaurant Joe T.'s, Esperanza's also takes all credit cards. Watch for the expanded menu soon at 1601 Park Place, 817-923-1992; www.joets.com.
