A new Cajun cheesecake bakery and cafe has landed in Hurst.
But the roots go back to ... Oklahoma?
Tulsa native Doug Warner managed delis in Arlington years ago before he switched to a banking job.
Now, he's launching Sincerely Yours Cheesecakes Cajun bakery-cafes, beginning in a former bagel shop on Harwood Road.
Sincerely Yours is more than a bake shop. The crawfish étouffée ($9-$12) is thick enough to make any Louisianan happy.
The menu also includes po-boys, fresh salads and a chicken-sausage gumbo.
(There's no fried food, but Sincerely Yours offers blackened and grilled specials.)
Go for the étouffée, but stay for the cheesecake.
Sincerely Yours starts with a creamy basic cheesecake like the expensive chains. Then Warner adds ingredients or toppings to make flavors such as strawberry-banana, Snickers, Reese's or banana cream ($3.99 slice, $19.99 cheesecake).
On top of that, Warner also offers homemade sweet potato pie, a rarity in chain-infested Northeast Tarrant County.
Sincerely Yours is open for lunch and dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays, lunch Sundays; 165 W. Harwood Road at Norwood Drive, near Bayley's about a mile north of Texas 183, 817-595-2253. The restaurant has a Facebook page, and Warner's old website is sincerelyyourscheecakes.mynetworksolutions.com.
The debate over DFW's best Philly cheesesteak has come to Grapevine.
Only weeks after Billadelphia's moved from Euless to North Richland Hills, Plano favorite Fred's Downtown Philly has opened in a timeworn Grapevine shopping center.
Fred's has a similar menu to Billadelphia's -- original cheesesteaks on Amoroso's rolls, Utz potato chips, TastyKake desserts -- but Fred's has one addition: seating.
The showcase Philly is the Broad Street, with peppers, mushrooms and jalapeños ($5-$9). The steaks come with a wide choice of cheeses -- yes, including Cheez Whiz -- and toppings.
Fred's is also known for its old-school Italian hoagie ($7.75). The restaurant also serves basic burgers and wings.
Fred's is at 2100 W. Northwest Highway on the Park Lane side, 817-310-3200; downtownphilly.net.
