The Commissary, the innovative burger restaurant in Dallas' One Arts Plaza, might still have a website as I write this, but Dallas Observer food critic Scott Reitz reports that it is now closed.
Trying to chase down a rumor about its closing, Reitz attempted to contact chef David McMillan (orignal chef John Tesar has long since split), with no luck. So he went over there after lunch -- a little easier when you're based in Dallas. He found a guy removing the restaurant's logo from its glass, who pointed Reitz to a paper sign saying that the Commissary has closed, but a new restaurant, Meze, that's part of the Ziziki's family, is scheduled to open in September. Meze will offer small plates and have a wine bar.
The Commissary opened in April 2011. Tesar (who was the subject of a D Magazine cover story subtitled The Most Hated Chef in Dallas) has been working to open Spoon Bar & Kitchen in Dallas by fall (it was supposed to open earlier, but suffered some delays, as D reported). McMillan continues as chef at Screen Door, which he ran in tandem with The Commissary.
