Just over the transom not long ago -- news from Spune (which, in its 15th year, continues to ever more impressive rosters of talent for both one-off and festival shows) that the inaugural "Index Festival" will kick off Oct. 5 at Trees in Deep Ellum.
The line-up, which will total 28 bands, includes a great mix of indie faves (Grimes, Washed Out, Cold War Kids, Heartless Bastards, Portugal. The Man) and locals (Telegraph Canyon, Air Review) spread across multiple stages. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks. Billed as a "day-party style festival" with a somewhat mystifying title (the press materials attempt to clarify -- "The new festival concept aims to showcase the best of what's next in indie music (indie next = ind ex) as well as highlight (index) the artists that dominate the personal catalogues of Spune's staff members." Oookay.)
Presented in conjunction with KXT, the Index Fest will feature a beer garden, food trucks, and a pair of outdoor stages to complement Trees' indoor stage. Right now, only KXT members can snag tickets (for $28) before they go on sale to the general public next week. Two-day "early bird" passes go on sale July 19 through the 24th (and will run you $32), while the regular two-day passes ($38) go on sale July 25, via Spune's ticketing website.
