Bacon. Sacha. Isabelle. Will your pet join the pantheon of DFW’s Model Pets? It’s time for our fun, furry contest again, the one where we seek out the Metroplex’s most awesome pet.
Last year’s winner was Isabelle, a big beautiful Mastiff whose story of healing touched our hearts; in 2010, we chose an icy-eyed Siberian husky princess named Sacha, and in 2009, it was the insanely happy French Bull dog named Bacon.
So for 2012, it could be your Fritz or Fifi. If you think your dog, cat, canary, guinea pig, or what-have-you is truly something special, you could win a fabulous prize. A change from previous years: this year, we will have prizes for the top dog, top cat and top alterna-pet. Cat and dog winners will receive very cool prize baskets courtesy of Spa Paws Hotel in Fort Worth. Find out more about Spa Paws on their Facebook page. (Prize packs will include overnight accommodations, vet and grooming services, pet accessories, treats galore and more.)
And as always, if you entered your pet in a previous year, you can submit him or her again, unless you’re the parents of a former winner.
So what makes a model pet? Maybe she’s the smartest in town. Maybe he’s the snuggliest. Maybe dear old Fluffy has done some heroic things in the past, like call 911 while you were choking on a chicken bone. Whatever the reason, we want to hear what makes your creature a model pet.
There are two ways to enter: (1) E-mail a photo of your pet (in jpeg format) along with your contact information and a description of why you think your beloved creature is DFW's most model pet to hsvokos@dfw.com. Essays must be fewer than 250 words. Please include your name in the email, and use the phrase "Model Pet Contest" in the subject line, or your entry will be lost.
Or (2) Upload a video of your pet, in all its amazingness, by clicking on the "Submit Your Own Media" link at dfw.com/videos. When you're finished, be sure to send an e-mail with the phrase "Model Pet Video" to hsvokos@dfw.com with the name of your video and how we can contact you.
The winners and all the entrants will also be featured in a photo slideshow, always one of our favorite things of the year. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on July 25. Employees of the McClatchy Co. are not eligible. Participants must live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
