Remembering Andy Griffith in the Twitterverse

Posted 12:01am on Wednesday, Jul. 04, 2012

Tuesday morning, we saw the news break on Twitter: Andy Griffith had died. He was a critically acclaimed dramatic actor, but most widely known as America's sheriff, Opie's pa, Barney Fife's foil and as a folksy defense lawyer to the accused. Here's a sampling of the morning's Twitter tributes. Rest in peace, Andy!

Aw, Andy Griffith died at age 86. The world is a little less charmingly folksy today.

Sad to hear about Andy Griffith. Loved the show. Mayberry has had a tough year -- first Goober, now Andy. RIP Andy

Andy Griffith was one of the great ones. Plus, my mother watched an unhealthy dose of Matlock, so he was like a 3rd grandpa. #RIPAndy

@jhopsmusicbox (singer/contestant from NBC's The Voice, season 2)

How come nobody's tweeting love for Matlock?
