Summerland Tour at Billy Bob's Texas
In the blink of an eye, the '90s have officially become fodder for the nostalgia machine. This summer sees not one, but two throwback tours crisscrossing the country, one of which arrives Saturday at Billy Bob's. The other, "Last Summer on Earth," featuring Barenaked Ladies and Blues Traveler, among others, hits Dallas on July 22. Each is jammed with acts whose last significant hits were mostly during the Clinton administration. Billy Bob's will retire its spurs for one night and bust out the flannel for Everclear, Sugar Ray, Lit, Gin Blossoms and Marcy Playground. That lineup make anyone else feel incredibly old?
7 p.m. Saturday. Billy Bob's Texas, Fort Worth. $20-$40.
Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival at Gexa Energy Pavilion
'Tis the season for daylong celebrations of every conceivable genre, and the latest to swing through Dallas is this decidedly loud assemblage of acts. Slipknot, Slayer, Motörhead and Devil Wears Prada are set for the main stage, with a raft of younger, but no less lethal bands (such as As I Lay Dying, White Chapel, Betraying the Martyrs and Asking Alexandria) playing two other on-site stages. Slather on that sunscreen, stay hydrated and don't forget the earplugs, OK, kids?
1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Gexa Energy Pavilion, Dallas. $28.50-$203.15.
