The 11th annual Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game will be hosted by 11-time NBA All-Star Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks on June 30 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. There will be two teams -- the Blue Sox and White Sox -- made up of celebrity players and amateurs playing not slow pitch softball, but actual baseball that may include a fair amount of trash talking.
I have been to all but one of these games and it is always a fun night. A new addition to this year's action is the "Swing with the Stars" portion that will allow four people to take cuts during the Celebrity Home Run Derby.
Famous faces joining the 2011 NBA Finals MVP include former Dallas Cowboys wide receivers Terrell Owens and Drew Pearson, Mavs swingman Vince Carter, owner Mark Cuban, president Donnie Nelson, head coach Rick Carlisle, guards Jason Terry and Delonte West, forward Brian Cardinal, three-time Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl 'Moose' Johnston, FC Dallas defender Ugo Ihemelu, former Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners safety Roy Williams, former Texas Rangers outfielder Kevin Mench, former major league player Ben Grieve and actor Geoff Stults. Don't forget the highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be the appearance of 103.3 ESPN's Ben Rogers and Jeff 'Skin' Wade aka Ben and Skin.
Proceeds benefit the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation. The Celebrity Home Run Derby begins at 5 p.m. with the game slated to start at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $7, $9, $13 and $16 through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets are also available at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark box office.
