Prepare to get lifted Friday at Lola's Saloon, with two of the area's spaciest (in a good way) rock bands. Fort Worth's the Cush and Dallas-based Menkena will pull from their most recent efforts (Between the Leaves and With You I'll Travel, respectively), layering hypnotic guitars atop entrancing vocals wrapped in enticing rhythms. Downbeat is at 10 p.m., and tickets are $7, $10 at the door.
Singer-songwriter and Dallas native Emily Elbert returns home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a gig at the intimate Kessler Theater. Elbert, a Berklee College of Music grad, is bringing some pals from back East with her: the Boston Boys, a "future roots" quartet that she befriended during her days at Berklee. She is currently touring in support of her just-released live album, Alive, With Love, and will be joined by opener and fellow rising star Tiger Darrow, a Booker T. Washington grad and New York University student. Tickets are $15-$22.50 at thekessler.org.
