Coldplay at American Airlines Center
Chris Martin and his bandmates are slowly making their way around the world, logging several multishow stints like the two-night stand in Dallas. Coldplay is on the road to support its fifth studio album, last year's atrociously titled Mylo Xyloto (pronounced my-lo zy-lee-toe), which spawned a few singles (Paradise, Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall and the Rihanna-augmented Princess of China) on its way to selling more than 3 million copies worldwide -- and this was a so-so effort from the guys. Still, Coldplay is a dynamic live act, one of the few major rock bands capable of drama without sacrificing great performances. With Robyn and Wolf Gang.
7 p.m. Friday-Saturday. American Airlines Center, Dallas. $26.50-$107.
El-P at Granada Theater
El-P (born Jaime Meline) is getting some of the best reviews of his career for his latest long-player, Cancer 4 Cure. The Definitive Jux CEO and alt-hip-hop star followed up his 2007 effort, I'll Sleep When You're Dead, with this gripping, polished record about not "giving into the darkness," as Meline told music blog RubyHornet. Many of his tourmates guest on various Cure tracks, so expect plenty of free-flowing collaborations between headliner and opening acts. With Killer Mike, Mr. M. Exquire and Despot.
7 p.m. Thursday. Granada Theater, Dallas. $26-$41.
