With the Love Shack at So7 on Trinity Park having hosted its goodbye party on Memorial Day as Chef Tim Love searches for a new location, my buddies and I decided to venture down to the Stockyards to try out the new version of Billy Miner's Saloon. When the word came out in the summer of 2010 that the original Billy Miner's in Sundance Square was closing, it was sad news for burger fans. While the former spot in downtown Fort Worth is now a Five Guys Burgers and Fries, it was a nice surprise to hear that a new Billy Miner's would be opening on the north side.
The reincarnation of one of my favorite spots to frequent is roughly one-third the size of the original and actually feels like somewhat of a tribute to the Billy Miner's that we used to hit up before a movie at the Sundance 11 cinema back in the day. It is located at 1521 N. Main St. between downtown and the Stockyards in the spot that was formerly Costa Azul and has certain aspects like bar seats that face out the window. The major difference is rather than looking out at Third Street, the view is cars driving down Main Street that are likely heading to Joe T's.
You still go in the back to order your burger that is offered individually or in combo meals and its happy hour featured the familiar complimentary nachos and peanuts. There is also a covered patio area that is set up to for DJs and hosting live music.
Overall it was a fun experience as the burgers were good and the fact that we arrived at 5:15 p.m. on a Friday afternoon put us smack in the middle of the crowded happy hour scene that brought back memories of the good old days in downtown Fort Worth.
