Twin Peaks 2012 All-Star Bikini Contest in Dallas

DALLAS -- The popular restaurant chain Twin Peaks held its annual contest to crown Miss Twin Peaks 2012 on Wednesday, May 30, at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas. While last year's contest did have a special meaning as yours truly was a member of the esteemed panel of 'celebrity' judges, I have to be honest and say this year's production value was ratcheted up to a new level.

In addition to replacing me on the judges' panel with Dallas Mavericks general manger Donnie Nelson, the event was moved from outside in the dead heat of July at the Twin Peaks in Addison to the Palladium, a spacious indoor concert venue just south of downtown Dallas. With Twin Peaks expanding to 20 restaurants nationwide, this year's event only included the winner from each individual location's contests.

We arrived an hour early for the VIP reception, which included a buffet from Velvet Taco and complimentary beverages. The show began shortly after 8 p.m. with each of the ladies taking the stage clad in red Sweet Revenge bikinis to introduce themselves to huge crowd. Then each contestant had a video taken from a photo shoot the day before that helped everyone get to know them before answering questions such as "If you were an animal, what would you be?"

The awards began with Miss Congeniality going to Miss Wichita and the "Crowd Favorite" going to Miss Bedford. Then the final three were announced: Taylor (Miss Baton Rouge) was second runner-up and Alyssa (Miss San Antonio) earned first runner-up honors. Then last year's winner, Brittany (Lil Brit), who is currently at the Twin Peaks in Plano, crowned Miss Twin Peaks 2012, Tember from Omaha.

"Judging by the crowd reaction, I really did not think I had a chance to even place," Tember said. "The surprise of winning makes it that much better."

Tember took home the $5,000 top prize and will appear in the upcoming Twin Peaks calendar, which will be released this fall. To find the nearest Twin Peaks location, visit here.
