Music minute: Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge

Posted 9:07am on Wednesday, May. 16, 2012

Generally shows are worth seeing because of the bands playing them, but in this instance, it's more about the venue: Saturday, during ArtsGoggle on the Near Southside, the public will have its first chance to step inside Bill Smith's Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge. He's lined up two respected North Texas acts -- Seryn and Calhoun -- to showcase the space during its "soft opening." Seryn will play at 8 p.m. and Calhoun (featuring new bassist Danny Balis) will play at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Fort Worth rockers Neptune Locals celebrate the release of their new, five-track EP Origins on Saturday at Lola's Saloon. The band will be joined by Bum Lucky, the Effinays and Mix Magyk. Music gets going at 9 p.m. and cover is $7 for the over-21 crowd, $10 for the unders. A free copy of Origins is included with the price of admission (and it will also be for sale for $5).
