Five Guys now open in Sundance Square

Posted 2:43pm on Friday, Mar. 09, 2012

It's he-e-e-e-ere! On Wednesday, Five Guys Burgers & Fries officially opened their doors in the space just doors down from the old Billy Miner's (313 Houston St.).

Since the D.C.-area-based burger joint was featured in both our 2009 and 2011 Battle of the Burgers (and it made it to the Final Four in 2009), we had to make a lunch pitstop today. We're glad to report that our burger was juicier than our last Five Guys double patty. We tried the Kosher hot dog, too; grilled, butterflied, ample and tasty.

This outpost feels more cramped than the Southlake branch, which could make for an interesting dynamic. While the new Five Guys was doing a nice business, there were several empty tables -- no wait at all, and we were there at peak lunch time. Our powers of deductive reasoning tell us that since it's only been open a few days, most people don't know it's open yet.

Once the word gets out, you may have a wait. If that's the case, might we suggest stepping across the street to try a gourmet delight at H2 Burger Co., one of our favorite burgers in town. It's easy to miss, because it doesn't have a dedicated storefront; for now it resides inside the Red Goose Saloon.

Whatever your preference, between those two places, Jake's, and the new Oliver's Fine Foods at 415 Throckmorton, you burger-loving fools won't be hurting for some downtown patty love.
