South by Southwest is responsible for the vast majority of the music being made in North Texas this weekend. Joe King Carrasco and the Original Crowns are no exception -- the Austin legends will be making a stop at the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff at 8 p.m. Saturday. Featuring Arlington Heights grad Kris Cummings on organ, Carrasco and his bandmates will be taking their patented brand of "Tex-Mex New Wave" back home for a series of SXSW gigs. With Jitterbug Vipers. Tickets are $15.
If you want another taste of the Austin madness, swing by Magnolia Motor Lounge at 8 p.m. Monday. There, you'll find a pair of Fort Worth bands -- Calhoun and the Quaker City Night Hawks -- alongside a mix of national acts en route to SXSW: Lera Lynn, Jenny O. (who has drafted the Night Hawks as her backing band for SXSW) and Black Taxi. A cool five bucks gets you in the door.
