Fort Worth guitarist and singer-songwriter Mace Maben continues his battle against cancer, as his musical contemporaries and friends once more rally to his aid, beginning at noon Saturday at Fred's Texas Cafe. The lineup includes Derek Larson, Jody Jones, Kenny Uptain, Guthrie Kennard, Scott Copeland and Jacob Furr. Likely, donations will be requested, with most or all proceeds benefiting Maben's medical bills.
Thursday is just stuffed with great local music. Across town, a killer trio of bands with roots in Tarrant County -- Badcreek, Bits of Kids and Foxtrot Uniform -- will take the stage at Lola's Saloon, beginning at 9:30 p.m. and presented by top-notch local music blog The Synaptic. The freshest faces on the bill would be Arlington quartet Bits of Kids, which bills itself as a punk-country hybrid, although the Fort Worth-based duo of Kelly Test and Kenny Uptain (better known as Foxtrot Uniform), currently at work on an EP, is also fairly new 'round these parts. Toss in the country-rock stylings of the Badcreek fellas, and you've got a bang-up night of DFW sounds.
