We've been saying it over and over: Never underestimate the power of cats on the Internet. Still, we never thought cats would beat Betty White. But in the readers' bracket of the Battle of the Classic Super Bowl ads, EDS' eighth-seeded Cat Herder, an under ... cat if there ever was one, triumphed over Snickers' third-seeded Betty White in the most competitive reader-voted round yet. We're sure Betty White won't mind. After all, that ad revived her career; what did the cats get, Fancy Feast?
But can cats beat Darth Vader? After all, Darth Vader beat Mean Joe Greene, who we thought would go all the way, especially after MacIntosh's 1984 was eliminated. But Volkswagen's fifth-seeded The Force, featuring a young Darth Vader, beat second-seeded Thanks, Mean Joe, a Coca-Cola classic. So the championship round comes down to two ads we didn't expect to see there (the judges picked Thanks, Mean Joe and Bud's Wassup for the Final Two, with Wassup, winning, but we didn't even come close when it came to the readers' picks).
Here are the Final Two. We know it's Super Bowl weekend and you're going to be busy, so voting ends at midnight Sunday, and we'll announce the winner Monday morning.
