Oscars picks contest and party at the Modern

Posted 8:14am on Wednesday, Feb. 01, 2012

Predict the winners

Grab your top hat, tails and your favorite Jack Russell terrier -- it's once again time to join DFW.com, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Lone Star Film Society for our annual Oscar Watching Party at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

Make your picks in our Oscars contest Will the silence of The Artist speak volumes, or can the low-key, Hawaii-set drama The Descendants hula its way to a Best Picture upset? Will Meryl Streep finally secure that long-elusive third Oscar, or will Viola Davis snatch the prize from her fingers? Is Christopher Plummer the lock that everyone thinks he is?

And, really, has there ever been a cuter movie dog than Uggie?

Make your Oscar picks by clicking here, where you can enter for a chance to win a year’s worth of free movies from Rave Cinemas. Deadline to vote is 6 p.m. Feb. 26.

Walk the red carpet at the Modern

Also on Sunday, Feb. 26, everyone is invited to walk the red carpet and watch the Oscars with us at our fourth annual party at the Modern. Guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite nominee, and this year we’re thinking you have plenty of inspiration: Pearls and a bouffant can help transform you into Margaret Thatcher. A blonde wig, a white dress and a wind machine, and you’ll look like Marilyn Monroe.

This year’s Oscar lineup also includes baseball players (Moneyball), 1920s Parisians (Midnight in Paris, Hugo), silent-movie stars (The Artist) and a gaggle of desperate Bridesmaids. (And you thought you’d never wear that dress again.) If all else fails, just grab a Hawaiian shirt and pass yourself off as an extra from The Descendants. Our celebrity judges will be on hand to award special prizes to the best Oscar-inspired costumes of the year.

The evening kicks off at 6 p.m., when all are invited to walk the red carpet. DFW.com’s crack team of entertainment junkies will be on hand to talk about the nominated movies and to tell you if your outfit is worthy of a nomination.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the Oscar broadcast will be shown live via satellite in Café Modern and in the Modern’s auditorium. Throughout the evening, we’ll also have a viewing screen in the Modern’s lobby, along with light snacks and drinks available for purchase.

DFW.com’s Christopher Kelly is your emcee for the evening, and he’ll be handing out Oscar-inspired prize packages during commercial breaks.

Admission is free, and no ticket is required. Seating in the museum’s auditorium is first come, first served. Seating in the cafe is unlimited.
