Craig Finn at Club Dada
Stepping away for a moment from his day job as lyricist, lead singer and de facto frontman of the beloved Minneapolis-bred indie-rock group the Hold Steady, singer-songwriter Craig Finn is kicking off a tour in support of his solo debut, Clear Heart Full Eyes, in Dallas. Recorded last July with producer Mike McCarthy (who has worked with Spoon, among many others), the LP dials down the Hold Steady's beery raucousness and instead takes a moodier, vaguely alt-country path. Intact, however, is Finn's trademark novelistic style, filling songs like Apollo Bay and Honolulu Blues with exacting, vivid detail. With Mount Moriah.
8 p.m. Wednesday. Club Dada, Dallas. $10 advance, $15 day of show.
The Ataris at Lola's Saloon
This Indiana pop-punk quintet has logged nearly two decades in the game and continues to write, record and tour with regularity. The band's forthcoming LP, The Graveyard of the Atlantic, however, has been delayed for various reasons since tracking began in 2008. Having wrapped up work on their sixth studio effort, the Ataris plan to release Atlantic this year, with the extra songs amassed during the process offered as 7-inch singles throughout 2012. With Perdition and Here Holy Spain.
9 p.m. Sunday. Lola's Saloon, Fort Worth. $10, $14 under 21.
