The Civil Wars at House of Blues
For a measure of how well 2011 unfolded for the Civil Wars, consider this: the Grammy-nominated band's first trip through North Texas last March resulted in a sold-out two-night stand at Deep Ellum mainstay AllGood Cafe. In July, it returned for a sold-out gig at Oak Cliff's hip, rejuvenated Texas Theatre. Now, less than a year after that initial stop here, the duo, which consists of Joy Williams and John Paul White, is back, headlining the House of Blues, all on the strength of its austere, richly harmonized debut LP, Barton Hollow. See the Civil Wars now before they're returning to play rooms twice the size. With the Staves.
8 p.m. Saturday. House of Blues, Dallas. $20, $22 DOS.
Loretta Lynn at Winspear Opera House
The field of country legends is being steadily, scarily whittled down to a precious few; age, disease and fickle audiences are putting titans out to pasture at an alarming rate. Loretta Lynn has already had to postpone a few recent tour dates, owing to a bout of pneumonia after a knee operation. Not the sort to sit back and moan about getting older, Lynn has returned to the road with a vengeance, booking dates well into June.
7 p.m. Sunday. Winspear Opera House, Dallas. $38-$75.
