Steak might be tough to find on New Year's Eve.
Try sushi.
Tokyo Cafe and its south-side cousin, Shinjuku Station, will serve their usual menus Saturday -- no inflated prices.
Tokyo Cafe is the larger and more laid-back of the two. It's a 15-year-old sushi bar and restaurant, but has gained more attention the past few years for volcano rolls, wasabi shrimp tempura and a clever menu of soups, salads and combination dishes.
It's open until 10 Saturday night. Reserve on opentable.com or call 817-737-8568; 5121 Pershing Ave. (one block north of Interstate 30 at Merrick Street), thetokyocafe.com.
Shinjuku Station is Tokyo's younger West Magnolia Avenue counterpart. It serves the same sake-steamed mussels and spicy "Tok" fries, but adds ishiyaki (Kobe beef cooked over hot stones at the table) and okonomiyaki, a pork-and-cabbage dish often called a "Japanese pizza" or a "Japanese pancake."
New items include edamame hummus. Shinjuku's cross-cultural drink menu includes "Shinjuku-ritas" with yuza and agave, shiso mojitos and wasabi-Sriracha "bloody Maris"; 711 W. Magnolia Ave., 817-923-2695, shinjuku-station.com.
The landmark Japanese Palace hibachi steakhouse and sushi bar is offering an "Emperor's Dinner" for two with California rolls for $59.95; 8445 Camp Bowie W., 817-244-0144, japanesepalace.net.
In Southlake, flashy Sushi Zushi will serve its regular menu; 1420 E. Southlake Blvd., 817-310-3191, sushizushi.com.
Most prime steakhouses have been booked for days, but try early or late at JR's in Colleyville or Silver Fox Steakhouse in Grapevine.
Cacharel in Arlington offers a $49.75 regular dinner menu including its beloved chocolate soufflé.
At Ellerbe Fine Foods, Louisiana chef Molly McCook offers an oyster Rockefeller, chicken gumbo, braised duck with grits (or crusted redfish with dirty rice) and beignets. It's $70, but mostly booked; 1501 W. Magnolia Ave., 817-926-3663, ellerbefinefoods.com.
You'll need black-eyed peas Sunday.
Try Hoffbrau Steaks.
Hoffbrau is an old-school Texas steakhouse chain with juicy burgers, thick buttered steaks and culinary Texana.
It has locations on South University Drive in Fort Worth, the Arlington Highlands shopping center, Haltom City and Granbury; hoffbrausteaks.com.
The Dixie House Cafe restaurants also make black-eyed peas a tradition. (If you can get past the pies.)
Dixie House has three Fort Worth locations, plus more in Saginaw and Euless; dixiehousecafe.com.
