I just got the greatest Christmas present ever, and I don’t even celebrate the holiday.

Theo Phiripes, son of Nick and grandson of founding owner George, has confirmed that George’s Imported Foods will reopen Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Nick and Theo shuttered George's nearly a year ago to tend to family business, but now, they’re ready to feed the westside masses again. And judging from the hubbub on Facebook, I’m not the only one who’s jonesing for a Greek Turkey pita.

Nick and Theo are keeping their beloved menu, but adding chicken to the mix with chicken gyros and greek chicken salads. After cooking over a flattop grill for years, they’ve upgraded to a new grill and vent. Theo says that’ll help to cut down on cooking time. Other menu adds include pastries like cheesecakes from the restaurant’s White Settlement Road neighbor, Artisan Baking Co. And well-sourced Greek desserts will still be in the offing, like the baklava and those addictive powdered cookies, kourambiedes.

While the space inside will remain the same, artist Darla Lyon has added a new Greek-themed mural inside the store to match the one she painted outside a few year ago.

I've cleared my calendar already for Tuesday. Have you? Wait a second, don’t tell too many people. George’s parking lot and dining room are small. Let’s just keep it between us.
