The top DFW scenes of 2011

Posted 8:27am on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011

2011 was one for the record books for those of us in DFW. We experienced the coldest week of my lifetime coinciding with Super Bowl XLV mania coming to North Texas and followed that up with the hottest summer that most of us will ever endure. In the midst of all of the craziness, I had more fun than this space allows. Here a few of the highlights from the 2011 scene:

A NIGHT IN THE LIFE OF THE DALLAS MAVERICKS DANCERS was one of those near-perfect experiences as I spent close to five hours hanging out with the 'Hottest Dance Team in the NBA' on the night of a nationally televised Mavs-Lakers game that saw Dallas win 109-100.

The SUPER BOWL XLV PARTY SCENE included the Playboy, Maxim, GQ, Audi, ESPN and Moves Magazine bashes as party goers braved the treacherous icy road conditions in the name of having fun and spotting celebs on the red carpet. My favorite of all the Super Bowl XLV parties was the Mark Cuban HDNet/DIRECTV party in Victory Park.

SUPER BOWL XLV took place on February 6 at Cowboys Stadium featuring the NFC champion Green Bay Packers and the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers. A crowd of 103,219 witnessed the Packers 31-25 victory. The Black Eyed Peas and Usher performed at halftime.

FAT TUESDAY ON WEST 7TH was an all around fun night. We bounced around from the Durty Crow to 7th Haven and Poag Mahone's. Our final stop of the evening was the Pour House with its capacity crowd for the big bikini contest.

The closing SATURDAY NIGHT AT SXSW March 19 was my first trip down to the annual festival in Austin. While technically not in DFW, it was an easy drive down and I felt like home as we stayed at the sparkling new W Hotel that put us right in the middle of the action that included Mark Cuban's HDNet party, Kanye West and Jay Z's bash and the Perez Hilton 'One Night in Austin' party.

The DALLAS PLAYBOY GOLF SCRAMBLE returned for a second year to Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Carrollton as golfers teed it up in a shotgun format that included Playboy Playmates Kelley Thompson and Amber Campisi in addition to the Dallas Playboy Girls of Golf.

MAIN STREET ARTS FESTIVAL takes over Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth for one of the biggest weeks on the DFW social scene. I love Sundance Square and never really need an excuse to go downtown, but on this particular week, I was joined by over 400,000 people to check out the work of 200 artists for the biggest festival in Texas.

I always mark the week of the COLONIAL on my calendar as a time to catch up with old friends at the 13th Hole for what is a guaranteed good time. With PGA TOUR superstar Rickie Fowler in the field, tons of beautiful girls were on hand to make this a 'see and be seen' spot for the DFW in-crowd.

THE NBA FINALS  run culminating in the Dallas Mavericks defeating the Miami Heat for the franchise first title captivated DFW for the first half of June. I attended every home game at the AAC and hit up watch parties at Frankie's in Sundance Square and Victory Park in Dallas.

The TWIN PEAKS ALL-STAR BIKINI CONTEST in Addison featured the top girls from the 14 Twin Peaks locations and yours truly serving as one of the judges. The 29 degree beer helped cool off the huge crowd on the sweltering July 24th evening.

The photo shoot for this year's DFW.COM HOT ISSUE was hard work, but it is impossible to discount how much fun I had bouncing between the three swimming pools on a hot August day at Four Seasons in Las Colinas. Granted, we were hanging out with Dallas Mavericks Dancers Paula Tabares and Lauren Castillo, Miss Texas United America Vivian Ta, Sybil Summers from 105.3 The Fan and models including Misty Romano, DD Johnson, Erin Marie Garrett, Desirae Alaya and Brooke Becker.

The Texas Rangers made their second straight trip to the WORLD SERIES as they took on the St. Louis Cardinals. While we witnessed the heartbreaking outcome of losing in seven games, it was still a magical atmosphere at the Ballpark for the middle three games.

The DALLAS COWBOYS CHEERLEADERS SWIMSUIT CALENDAR RELEASE PARTY took place on November 18 at the Glass Cactus on Lake Grapevine. It was an invite-only event with 'America's Sweethearts' on hand to sign calendars and take pictures with the people behind the scenes on the calendar joined VIPs and sponsors.
