Feeling chilly? Warm up with a Café Modern soup

Posted 11:22am on Monday, Dec. 05, 2011

It’s been yucky-cold outside the last few days, and what better way to embrace it than by eating soup?

I recently stopped by Café Modern at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and had a bowl o’ bliss: the cauliflower daily soup ($6.50). Creamy and hearty, the soup was topped by roasted slivered almonds and a drizzle of fig puree. It was wonderful, and it hit all the right notes, a delicate balance between sweet and savory.

But then again, Chef Dena Peterson seldom disappoints. She’s always been interested in cooking fresh, seasonal food, and lately, she’s added a number of gluten-free items on the menu, too. Many of the salads (balsamic glazed steak salad, the grilled caesar and the Texas wedge) as well as the tasty grilled shrimp with orzo can be prepared gluten-free.

Whether you’re a soup glutton like me, or just looking for gluten-free options, Café Modern has got you covered. And that’s good, because last time I checked, it was still raining outside.

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
