Music minute: Three bands help Fort Worth film fest celebrate Texas-style

Posted 11:53pm on Tuesday, Nov. 08, 2011

The 5th Annual Lone Star International Film Festival continues through Sunday, but its organizers are throwing a closing-night concert at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 8.0 in downtown Fort Worth. For the occasion, the fest hasn't strayed from the state's borders, bringing together three top-notch North Texas acts -- Telegraph Canyon, the Orbans and Seryn -- to take the outdoor stage. The show is open to all fest pass holders, members of the Lone Star Film Society or anyone with a ticket to a Saturday or Sunday screening. If you just want to hear the tunes, don't fret: The cover is a mere $5 at the door.

Get in the holiday spirit (sheesh -- already?) with New Science Projects and a trip to J&J's Pizza in Denton at 8 p.m. Saturday. NSP has recorded an EP of original seasonal tunes for the occasion, appropriately titled Xmas Time, and will be joined in the cozy J&J's dungeon by Spooky Folk, Tony Ferraro and the Satans of Soft Rock and the Angelus' Emil Rapstine. Did I mention it's a free, all-ages gig? Just call it more scratch to buy gifts for the loved ones.
