Pop superstar Enrique Iglesias will be the featured performer at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game to kick off the 120th Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign. Enrique made the big announcement during his Euphoria tour stop at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 4. The kettle campaign has raised $1.4 billion -- including a record $142 million in 2010 -- since the partnership with the Cowboys began 15 years ago. This will be the 120th anniversary of the Army's iconic Red Kettle Campaign.
"This is a great opportunity – to spend Thanksgiving in Dallas where music, football and helping others truly comes together," Iglesias said. "The Dallas Cowboys and The Salvation Army have a great partnership -- throw in some great music and I know we can get viewers dancing and encourage donors to give generously."
The halftime extravaganza has become almost as big of a tradition as the holiday game itself. Previous halftime performers that helped bring awareness to the campaign include Keith Urban, Daughtry, Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Sheryl Crow, Destiny's Child, Toby Keith, LeAnn Rimes, Creed, Jessica Simpson, Clint Black, Randy Travis and Reba McEntire.
"We are more than excited to have superstar artist Enrique Iglesias kickoff the Red Kettle Campaign," said Charlotte Jones Anderson, Dallas Cowboys' executive vice president of brand management and Chairperson of The Salvation Army's National Advisory Board. "We know he will put on a halftime performance that will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Cowboys partnership with The Salvation Army in style."
Enrique was presented with a Cowboys #67 jersey in honor of the 67 No. 1 spots he has held on the Billboard charts. As part of the Red Kettle Kickoff, fans of Enrique and the Cowboys will be eligible to win a trip for two to the Thanksgiving Day game in Dallas by signing up to host an Online Red Kettle by visiting onlineredkettle.org. In addition to giving to traditional and online kettles, supporters can give through the Army's text-to-give program. Donors can text the word "GIVE" to 80888 to make a $10 donation to the Red Kettle Campaign.
The Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Miami Dolphins is set for November 24 at 3:15 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. This year's game will air on CBS.
