This City Awaits is finalist in Charter Cable competition

Posted 10:08am on Monday, Sep. 19, 2011

You may recall, from last month, that several DFW-area acts were competing in a nationwide contest to win an opening slot for Panic at the Disco. The "Charter Center Stage" battle of the bands has moved into its second round and only one local band remains in the competition: Crowley's This City Awaits.

The trio is one of 11 finalists in the online battle of the bands, which began with more than 300 bands from across the country and nearly a half-million votes cast. This City Awaits just released its debut album, Code Red: Urgency, earlier this year and the band has already seen benefits from participating in the contest.

"We have had a blast on Charter's Center Stage contest," said lead singer Phillip Ivey in a statement, "and it has helped us grow our fan base on Facebook." Voting for this second round began yesterday and continues through Sept. 25. Go here to cast your vote.

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
